A Busy Summer

When I first started in ministry, I was often warned about the "summer slowdown" – a time when ministry took a backseat to other endeavours. This certainly has not been the case for our area! Besides our two international mission trips to Romania and Mexico in June and July, we have a lot of ministry going on! In fact, our summers have been among the business times of ministry throughout the year and now our busy summer is almost here!

Ocoee Outreach has been a mainstay of our summer ministry efforts. Each year hundreds of volunteers come to restore homes, renew hope and reach hearts with the love of Jesus Christ. This is a special year for our Ocoee Outreach ministry as they will be celebrating 15 years of ministry. If your church needs some ministry help this summer, please contact us about Ocoee Outreach. We seek to be a resource to our churches in anyway we can. As Ocoee Outreach prepares for a huge summer of local missions work, we are in need of the following items: bleach, bottled water, paintbrushes and rollers, snack cakes, small packages of crackers and Gatorade. Any of these items will be a tremendous help. Please bring supplies to our office.

Vacation Bible School has always been another great summer ministry to reach the next generation. If you have set your VBS dates, please contact our office so that we may promote it on our website calendar. This year, please consider using your VBS missions offering toward our DC partnership and reaching the lost. What better way to help kids begin to see how God sees the lost and the great need to be on mission in cities like Washington, DC especially during this election year. (We will also be returning to DC during fall break, October 3rd-13th, for a mission trip. Please contact Randy Bonner at our office if you are interested in going).

On May 16th there will be a Backyard Kids Club Training at 6:45pm Westwood Baptist Church. Come discover a way to share the Gospel with kids wherever kids may be: a backyard, an apartment complex, a school, an open field, and even other countries! Please contact Vicki Hulsey at the Tennessee Baptist Convention for details, 615-417-0105.

There will be a free “Love Your City” Dinner on May 17th at 6PM at our office for pastors, lay leaders and their spouses as we introduce an incredible outreach emphasis for your church taking place this September. Please RSVP by May 13th by calling 423-476-5493.

Finally, please be in prayer for me as I serve as Transitional Interim Pastor at First Baptist Church in Etowah, TN.
